Tragedy struck at the Technology Incubation Centre in Gombe on Friday morning after a sudden fire outbreak razed part of the facility. The inferno, which broke out near the Police Headquarters, left shop owners counting their losses as goods worth about N4 million were consumed by the flames.
The Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Gombe State confirmed that they received a distress call regarding the incident at exactly 10:14 a.m. Responding with urgency, a firefighting team led by ASF II Mukhtar Shehu arrived at the scene and immediately began efforts to bring the situation under control.
Using a multipurpose water tender, the crew successfully battled the blaze to prevent it from consuming the entire complex. Their quick intervention proved vital, as they managed to protect four out of the five shops affected by the fire, saving assets valued at approximately N15 million.
The operation was completed by 11:09 a.m. after the firefighters conducted a thorough sweep of the area to ensure the fire was completely out and posed no further risk of spreading. ASF MB Muazu, the command’s spokesperson, praised the team for their rapid response in securing the site.
Following the incident, the fire service has issued a stern reminder to the public regarding the importance of fire safety. Officials are urging citizens to remain vigilant and to report any signs of fire immediately to help emergency responders prevent such costly disasters in the future.
