A disturbing wave of violence against women and minors has gripped Odisha, sparking widespread public anger and calls for urgent government intervention. In a harrowing incident in Mayurbhanj district, a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted, leading to the detention of three suspects by local police.

Police officials confirmed that the victim and her sister had accompanied four men to a forested area on Sunday. While the victim was attacked, her sister was reportedly kept at a distance by another member of the group. Authorities have identified the detained suspects as Sk Makbul, Sk Tipu, and Sk Omaan, while a fourth suspect, Sk Zabed, remains on the run.

The incident is one of several attacks reported across the state. In Bolangir’s Patnagarh area, police recently arrested four men accused of gang-raping a woman on June 8. Additionally, authorities in Nabarangpur are investigating the mysterious death of a 21-year-old woman whose body was discovered behind her home following the Raja festival celebrations. Police are currently awaiting autopsy results to determine if she was a victim of sexual violence.

The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has slammed the state government over the deteriorating security situation. Party leaders have expressed deep concern, arguing that the government has failed to protect vulnerable citizens while focusing on political celebrations. They are now demanding an impartial investigation and swift justice for all victims of these heinous crimes.
