More than 100 students in India’s Amravati district are lucky to be alive after falling severely ill from suspected food poisoning. The children, who attend government-run residential schools, began suffering from intense vomiting and stomach pain shortly after eating their weekend meals.
The health crisis started on Saturday when 69 students from a school in the Dharni region were rushed to the hospital. By Sunday, the situation worsened as dozens more children from neighbouring facilities began showing the same worrying symptoms, bringing the total number of victims well over 100.
Health officials have confirmed that most of the students are recovering well, with many already discharged from medical care. As of Monday, about 32 children remain under close observation at the local hospital, where doctors say they are stable and out of immediate danger.
Authorities have traced the contaminated meals to a central kitchen in Temli village that supplies food to several schools in the area. Police have already filed a formal complaint against the kitchen operator, and food samples have been sent to a laboratory to determine exactly what caused the mass illness.
This scary incident has sparked outrage among parents and local leaders, who are now demanding stricter hygiene checks in school kitchens. Lawmakers have visited the affected schools to ensure that safety standards are improved to prevent such a dangerous situation from happening again.
