It has been decades since the world lost one of its most influential voices in hip-hop, but the memory of Tupac Shakur remains as vivid as ever. The legendary rapper’s life was cut short following a high-profile night in Las Vegas that turned deadly.

On September 7, 1996, Tupac attended a heavyweight boxing match featuring Mike Tyson. What started as an exciting evening of sport quickly spiraled into chaos. Alongside his record label boss, Marion “Suge” Knight, the rapper became embroiled in a physical confrontation with Orlando Anderson, a man linked to the South Side Compton Crips gang.

The situation escalated rapidly after the pair left the boxing arena. As they traveled along the Las Vegas strip, a white Cadillac pulled up alongside their vehicle. In a hail of gunfire, assassins opened fire, striking Tupac four times in a brutal drive-by shooting.

The rap icon fought for his life in the hospital for nearly a week. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on September 13, 1996. He was only 25 years old at the time of his passing, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape music culture today.
