The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Men’s Volleyball Club has officially pulled out of the 47th CAVB Men’s African Club Volleyball Championship set for Kigali, Rwanda. The tournament, which runs from April 20 to May 2, will now proceed without the Ugandan side due to budget limitations.
General Secretary Ronald Musigo explained that the club could not afford to sponsor both the men’s and women’s teams for continental duties simultaneously. With the club relying entirely on KCCA funding, management opted to prioritize the women’s team, who are currently competing in Cairo, Egypt. This decision serves as a form of compensation for the women, who missed out on a similar opportunity last year despite qualifying.
Managing the disappointment has been a priority for the club. Musigo noted that while the male players are naturally disappointed, they have shown great maturity and remain focused on training for upcoming local tournaments and future international events. The club maintains that this withdrawal is a calculated move to ensure long-term sustainability rather than a lack of ambition.
Uganda will still be represented in Rwanda by Sport-S Volleyball Club and Nemostars Volleyball Club. Meanwhile, the KCCA women’s squad is currently facing a difficult campaign in Cairo, having lost their opening three matches in a highly competitive Pool C. Despite the rough start, the club remains committed to its goal of consistently representing Uganda on the continental stage.
