The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dropped a massive hammer on Hohoe United FC, slamming the club with a lengthy suspension for pulling out of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season without permission.
In a ruling released on Friday, the GFA Disciplinary Committee announced that the club is banned from all football activities until the 2029/2030 season. Once the ban expires, the team will not return to the top flight but will instead be demoted to the Division Two league under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association.
The trouble started on April 1, 2026, when the club officially informed the GFA of its decision to quit the league midway through the second round. The club immediately stopped showing up for their scheduled matches, a move the GFA ruled as a serious breach of Article 13 of the league regulations.
There is a glimmer of hope for the players, however. The GFA’s Players’ Status Committee has declared all registered Hohoe United players free agents. This allows them to seek new clubs immediately, provided they meet specific transfer conditions.
The punishment does not stop there. The GFA has ordered the club to return all financial support and equipment provided to them during the season. Furthermore, the association noted that the sanctions do not cancel out any existing debts the club owes to the GFA or other members.
If the club leadership feels the punishment is too harsh, they have a narrow window of three days from the date of the notification to file an official appeal with the GFA Appeals Committee.
