Ghanaian reggae and dancehall star, Epixode, has shared an interesting story about his humble beginnings in the creative industry. The singer revealed that before he became a household name, he worked as a graffiti artist, and it was rapper Edem who gave him his very first paycheck.
Epixode explained that he was merely pursuing music for the fun of it at the time. He was contacted by a production crew scouting for a local artist in Jamestown to handle some graffiti work for a music video shoot. Little did he know that this simple gig would mark the start of his professional journey.
According to the musician, he did not even ask for payment for the job. However, Edem was so impressed with his contribution that he decided to compensate him anyway. This gesture, he noted, was the first time he ever received money for his creative services.
The singer admitted that in those early days, his passion often outweighed his desire for money. Because he was genuinely thrilled to meet and work with stars he looked up to, he frequently offered his artistic talents for free. His portfolio eventually grew to include big names like Stonebwoy, Adina, and Nigerian star Patoranking.
Epixode credits these early experiences for helping him build strong industry connections. While he is now a celebrated performer in his own right, he remains grateful for the chance to have showcased his skills behind the scenes for some of the biggest icons in African music.
